Burnley have made their stance clear on a potential Milan van Ewijk transfer
Burnley are not interested in signing Milan van Ewijk from Coventry City this summer.
According to the Burnley Express, there is nothing in the suggestions that the Clarets are pursuing the Dutchman this transfer window.
Scott Parker is currently looking to bolster his side ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League after he guided them to automatic promotion last season.
Van Ewijk has been a key figure for the Sky Blues in the last two years, making 87 appearances across the last two campaigns, contributing four goals and seven assists.
It was reported by Mounir Boualin earlier this week that Burnley are among the clubs considering an approach for Van Ewijk.
Eintracht Frankfurt were also mentioned as a possible destination for the full-back following his impressive performances in the Championship.
However, it has now been claimed that links to Burnley are wide of the mark, with Parker’s side already having the likes of Connor Roberts, Kyle Walker, Oliver Sonne and Axel Tuanzebe as potential options at right-back.
While it is understood that the Clarets are considering a move to a back-three system for next season, it’s unlikely this will lead to a pursuit of Van Ewijk this summer.
This will come as a positive development at the CBS Arena, with the 24-year-old proving a key part of Frank Lampard’s first team squad last season.
Van Ewijk has a contract with Coventry until the summer of 2027.
Lampard will be hoping to bolster his side after they reached the play-off semi-finals last season with a fifth place finish in the table.
The Sky Blues have added Miguel Ángel Brau and Kaine Kesler-Hayden to the squad on a permanent basis.
The club have until 1 September to complete any remaining deals before the market shuts.
Coventry begin their league campaign on 9 August with a home clash against Hull City.
Coventry will be looking to keep this squad together for the new campaign and hope to push on for another promotion fight.
The team performed well last season once Lampard arrived as manager, and it doesn’t need a ton of work in the market in order to maintain a strong competitive level.
The more important factor of their summer will be keeping hold of the likes of Van Ewijk, so this Burnley development is a positive step.
There is still over a month left in the window, so there’s still time for more concrete interest to materialise, but the Sky Blues will be pleased that a Premier League offer hasn’t arrived just yet.
