Leeds United are still expected to sign another striker after sealing a deal for Lukas Nmecha.
Leeds United are still in the market for a number nine this summer despite the arrival of Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer from Wolfsburg.
The Whites won promotion back to the Premier League under Daniel Farke last season, and attention is now on building a squad that is capable of establishing the club back in the top-flight.
And, Leeds got their first bit of business done in the window with the signing of Nmecha, which was announced over the weekend.
The 26-year-old arrives at Elland Road with a decent pedigree, as he has won seven caps for Germany, and he has featured regularly for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga over the past few years.
However, Nmecha joins after a frustrating individual campaign, as he managed just three goals for Wolfsburg in the league, which prompted some Leeds supporters to question whether he is the clinical finisher they feel the club requires.
Yet, the Yorkshire Evening Post has revealed that Nmecha has been brought in as a ‘squad player’, and Leeds ‘remain in the market for another centre-forward’.
That will cast major doubt over the futures of Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph, as the duo were behind Joel Piroe in the pecking order last season, so Nmecha and another new recruit will seriously limit their game time moving forward.
This is the news that Leeds fans will have wanted to hear, as everyone knows how important it is to find a goalscorer if you are to survive and thrive in the top-flight.
Right now, even though he was excellent last season, there will be doubts over Piroe’s ability to handle the step-up, whilst Nmecha’s record in the Bundesliga makes it hard to think he will hit double figures next season, even if he is a good addition.
So, Farke will be pushing to get a high-profile attacking addition through the door, and it will arguably be one of the most important signings that the club makes this summer.
