Kylian Mbappe met with Robert Lewandowski at the end of last season to try and convince the striker to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Lewandowski made it clear at the end of the 2021/22 season that he wanted to leave Bayern Munich in search of a new challenge.

Over in Paris meanwhile, Mbappe was pushing his club to sign an out-and-out striker in the summer transfer window so that he could be given a role with more freedom rather than play up front himself.

Lewandowski fit the bill perfectly, and according to Le Parisien, the Frenchman decided to meet the Pole to try and convince him to join the Ligue 1 champions.

The pair met in Cannes in the last week of May, but Lewandowski ultimately decided to sign for Barcelona instead.

That proved to be a big blow for Mbappe and PSG with the club failing to bring in an alternative to Lewandowski.

They tried to sign Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca but he opted to sign for West Ham, forcing Mbappe himself to play as the team's striker this season with Neymar and Lionel Messi behind him.

PSG signed youngster Hugo Ekitike on a loan-to-buy deal from Reims, but he's featured only sparingly so far.
