Edinson Cavani joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window after being released by Paris Saint-Germain.

Juan Mata has revealed he is helping the Uruguayan settle in at the club — by teaching him English and offering valuable advice about the wonderful Manchester weather.

The Spaniard has admitted he’s thrilled to be playing in the same side as Cavani, having admired the striker throughout his career after spells at Napoli and PSG.

“Well, I’m very happy Edinson has come here because he is a very professional player, a very committed team-mate and very driven, during all his career,” Mata told United Review.

“Also, Edinson is very humble, of course, and he is a guy who likes the countryside. I think he’s settled now in his house in the countryside, which he is happy about.

“Of course, I told him that it is important to have a couple of umbrellas, not only one, in Manchester so I am sure he’s got a few! He is loving where he lives and his family is also happy.”

Mata also revealed he is helping Cavani get over the language barrier in Manchester. Both players are obviously Spanish-speakers, so it makes sense for one of our Spanish players to give a help in hand to the new addition.

“Yeah, I try,” he said. “Of course he is getting used to the English language so I am trying to translate for him.

“There are a few of us that can do it and I am happy to do so.

“Hopefully he’ll keep scoring, like he did against Everton. Everyone knows his qualities so I’m not going to only discover now where Edinson Cavani is in the football world.”

Although United were guilty of panicking last minute in the summer transfer window, we were lucky a player of Cavani’s ability was available on a free transfer. Time will tell if it becomes a success story but we need a centre-forward who is score 20+ goals per season.

Once he’s fully fit I reckon Cavani is going to be our main striker because Anthony Martial has struggled for goals when he’s played this season.

United take on Istanbul Basaksehir tonight in the UEFA Champions League and we are hoping to see Cavani in the starting line-up.

Hopefully Donny van de Beek too!
