Norwich City continued their impressive form in the Championship since the turn of the year, moving into the top six over the weekend.

David Wagner's side have won seven of their 12 league fixtures since the start of 2024, with their latest triumph coming at the expense of bottom side Rotherham United in a rampant 5-0 display against Leam Richardson's League One bound side.

A lot of credit has to go to the Canaries manager after pressure mounted on the German following a run of just two victories in 12 games in all competitions between September and November. But Norwich are seeing some of their top performers hit their stride at the most crucial point of the season, none more so than striker, Josh Sargent.

The American missed a huge chunk of the season having scored three goals in the opening four games of the campaign before an ankle injury. But upon his return in late December, Sargent picked up where he left off, taking his tally to 12 for the season.

With his fine form, has come interest, however. Last year, it was reported that Leeds United were keen to bring the striker to Elland Road, but has since signed a new contract at Carrow Road, keeping him at the club until 2028.

But with that new deal, Football League World takes a closer look into how the 24-year-old striker's wage compares to the division's highest earners.

Josh Sargent’s weekly wage at Norwich City

Sargent has been at Norwich for three years now, but given that, when he joined the club, he was fairly unknown to English football and had a small amount of high-level football in him, he could have been considered a risky signing by the club.

However, it seems the signing is now finally paying off, as the striker looked more at home at the club last season, and despite missing some of the season through injury, he has continued in that form in this campaign.

Sargent has turned out to be one of Norwich’s most important players, so here we decided to use Capology to see the estimated wage the forward is on at the club.

According to Capology, it estimates that Sargent is on a weekly wage of £25,000, which equates to £1,300,000 a year.

This estimates that the 23-year-old is the club’s joint-fifth highest earner, alongside Angus Gunn, with defender Ben Gibson out in front, with him estimated to be on £40,000 a week.

It is no surprise that the clubs relegated from the Premier League last term have some of the Championship's highest earners within their ranks.

According to Capology's estimates, all but one of the top 10 highest earners in the division come from either Leicester City, Leeds United, or Southampton, largely helped by the parachute payments to help maintain their wage bill, although all three clubs sold notable players from their relegation season in order to lower the money paid out to their squad.

It is estimated that Foxes striker Jamie Vardy is the highest paid player in the division, earning £140,000 per week, which equates to £7,280,000 per year, making him the only player to earn a six-figure sum per week in the league, according to Capology's estimates.

Leeds' top earners are tied between Georginio Rutter and Patrick Bamford, both estimated to earn £70,000 per week, equalling £3,640,000 per year. While at St. Mary's, midfielder Joe Aribo is estimated to pocket £70,000 per week, which is equal to £3,640,000 per year.

The one player who features among the top earners from those aforementioned sides is Cardiff City midfielder, Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman, who rejoined the Bluebirds having started his professional career there, is estimated to earn £80,000 per week.

When comparing Sargent's estimated wage, it's some way off even touching some of money earned by some players in the division. Most surprisingly, the likes of Bristol City pair Matty James and Nahki Wells, Coventry City trio Luis Binks, Haji Wright and Ellis Simms, and West Bromwich Albion midfielder, Adam Reach, are all estimated to earn more than the Canaries' striker.
