According to an update from AS, the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Como on August 10 at the new Spotify Camp Nou will be far more important than just a joyful homecoming for Barcelona.
It is shaping up to be a crucial moment for the club’s finances. This game could decide whether Barça can move forward with some of their planned deals and get back under La Liga’s financial rules.
A few months ago, La Liga blocked Barça’s plan to use €100 million they expected to earn from selling the rights to use 475 VIP seats for 30 years.
Barça had estimated €30 million would come from Fortia Advisor Limited and €70 million from New Era Visionary Group. But La Liga did not accept this expected income because the deals were not fully approved by everyone involved.
For Barça to get La Liga and Crowe Global’s final approval, they need to show that the VIP boxes in the stadium are already functioning. That is why the Gamper Trophy has turned into a must-play event at the new Spotify Camp Nou.
Even if only the first tier or around 60,000 seats are ready, the club wants the VIP areas to look like they are operating normally. This will send the message that everything is on track.

Playing the Gamper match at the Camp Nou in August is essential because it’s the only chance before the transfer window closes in September.
After that, Barça’s first three La Liga games will be away matches, meaning they won’t have another opportunity to showcase the stadium’s readiness in time to meet financial deadlines.
This urgency also explains why Barcelona announced their return to the Camp Nou a week ago.
They simply cannot afford to miss this opportunity. Under La Liga’s watchful eye, especially with pressure from Athletic Club regarding the Nico Williams situation, it is vital for Barça to make the VIP boxes look fully operational.
Otherwise, they risk missing out on approvals they need to register players and stabilise their finances for the new season.
