Josh Martin has shown a lot of promise in the last few seasons, but as the seasons pass by it is beginning to look more unlikely that the 21-year-old becomes an established first team player at Carrow Road.

Martin endured an unsuccessful loan spell at Milton Keynes Dons in the first half of last season, before showcasing his skill level far more with Doncaster Rovers in the second half, and Barnsley provides an exciting location for him to kick on again this term.

Mike Duff’s Tykes have turned a corner in the last month or so and appear well set to remain in top six contention for the remainder of the campaign.

Martin has made three substitute appearances in League One since arriving at Oakwell towards the back end of the summer window, most recently replacing Luke Thomas late on in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic.

Martin started in the club’s most recent Papa John’s Trophy action, a 2-0 win over Newcastle United U21s, however Martin was substituted in the 75th minute with the game still goalless.

There is a lot of competition for places in the final third at Barnsley and the likes of Thomas, Devante Cole and James Norwood have shown positive signs at the start of this season.

If Martin does not earn an extended run in the team between now and January, there is a good chance the Canaries choose to re-deploy him for the second half of the season again.

In the final year of his deal at Norwich it is important that he gains admirers in the EFL, ahead of potentially being unattached in the summer.
