When Jay McEveley joined Sheffield United in 2014, he would have been hoping to help the club secure a return to the Championship.

However, despite featuring regularly for the Blades, the defender ultimately failed to inspire a promotion push during his time at Bramall Lane and was eventually released in 2016.

In McEveley’s absence, United managed to win the League One title under the guidance of Chris Wilder who then led the club to the Premier League in 2019.

Here, we take a look at how McEveley has been getting on since his departure…

After making 88 appearances for the Blades in all competitions, McEveley moved to Ross County.

During his time with the Staggies, the defender scored three goals in 22 league appearances as his side secured a seventh-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

four occasions in the League Cup for Ross County as they were eliminated in the group stage of the competition.

The former Blades man opted to move to Tranmere Rovers for the 2017/18 campaign.

Despite making a relatively encouraging start to his spell at Prenton Park by featuring in eight of the club’s opening nine league fixtures, the defender was eventually forced to watch on from the sidelines after losing his place in the team.

Whilst Tranmere managed to achieve promotion to League Two via the National League play-offs, McEveley would not go on to feature for the club at this level as he left the club upon the expiry of his contract.

After retiring from professional football in 2018 following a brief stint with Warrington Town, McEveley was appointed as the Head of Academy Coaching for Welsh side Prestatyn Town last year.

The 36-year-old is as part of their academy system.

McEveley will be hoping to play a role in the development of players at both clubs for the foreseeable future.
