When Matt Rhead signed for Lincoln City back in 2015, few could have envisaged the journey both he and the club would go on together.

From the get go, Rhead began to produce at Sincil Bank, netting 20 goals and registering six assists in the National League despite the Imps recording an average finish of 13th.

The next season, though, Rhead continued to fire, scoring 15 and assisting 13 times, and this time, with Danny Cowley now at the helm, Lincoln were promoted to the Football League.

Rhead once again racked up a decent return as Lincoln went on to fall short in the play-offs in their first season back in the EFL, registering 17 direct goal contributions (8 goals, 9 assists).

A disappointing final season at Sincil Bank followed in terms of goalscoring, but Rhead still managed 34 appearances as Lincoln City once again earned promotion, this time to League One.

All in all, Rhead’s four seasons at the club will be remembered fondly, with the player producing 50 goals and 36 assists in 187 club appearances.

With that said, we thought we’d take a look at how Rhead was getting on at the moment.

How is he getting on?

Despite being 38-years-old, Matt Rhead continues to play football in the non-league.

The striker currently finds himself at National League North side Alfreton Town after joining the club last season.

In 52 appearances for Alfreton, Rhead has scored 15 goals, showing he still has that goalscoring ability despite age catching up on him.

Only three of those goals have came this season, though, with the 38-year-old’s 13 National League North appearances coming from the bench a lot of the time early on this campaign.

This does, however, appear to have shifted in recent weeks with Rhead once again a more regular feature in the starting line-up.

Indeed, Rhead seems to be getting on well, although with Alfreton Town currently 12th in the league standings, they have some work to do if the striker wants to experience yet another promotion.
