Following a spell in charge of Shrewsbury Town, Paul Hurst was handed over the reins at Portman Road in 2018 as he was drafted in as a replacement for Mick McCarthy.

Hurst would have been hoping to help Ipswich Town reach new heights in the Championship during his first season at the helm.

However, Hurst experienced a disastrous start to his time at the club as the Tractor Boys failed to win any of their opening 11 league fixtures.

Ipswich also suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Exeter City in the League Cup as they struggled to adapt to life under the guidance of their new manager.

Whilst a 3-2 victory over Swansea City briefly eased the pressure that was starting to build on Hurst, back-to-back defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United in the Championship resulted in Ipswich opting to part ways with the 47-year-old.

Ipswich were unable to improve following Hurst’s exit as they suffered relegation to League One in 2019.

Here, we have decided to take a look at how Hurst has been getting on since his unsuccessful spell at Ipswich…

Hurst was appointed as Scunthorpe boss in May 2019 as the League Two side opted to give him the opportunity to transform their fortunes.

Having been relegated from League One during the previous campaign, the Iron would have been looking to make an immediate return to this division in the 2019/20 season.

Unfortunately for Scunthorpe, they went onto experience a tough start to the term as they lost six of their opening seven league games.

Whereas the Iron did manage to step up their performance levels by winning eight of their next 22 league games, Hurst parted ways with the club following their 3-0 defeat to Northampton Town.

After a brief period away from football, Hurst was appointed as Grimsby Town’s new manager in December 2020.

Unable to prevent the club from suffering relegation to the National League last year, Hurst is currently looking to lead his side to an immediate return to League Two this season.

Currently seventh in the fifth-tier standings, Grimsby are on course to qualify for the play-offs.

However, with the likes of Boreham Wood and Dagenham & Redbridge looking to climb above the Mariners in the league table, Hurst’s side will need to deliver the goods on a consistent basis between now and the end of the season in order to give themselves a chance of achieving promotion.
