Starting his youth career with Arsenal, Lee Johnson continued his progression with Watford before gaining his first minutes in a senior environment at Brighton & Hove Albion.

In the summer of 2001, Johnson, who operated as a midfielder, joined Conference National club Yeovil Town, spending five years with the Glovers where he managed to a chief promotion twice.

A move north of the border came to fruition in 2006 with Hearts taking a punt on the midfielder, however, he was restricted to just five appearances during his time there.

In August 2006, Johnson sealed a move to Bristol City, and in six years at the club, Johnson made just shy of 200 appearances.

Johnson’s playing career ended with a stint at Kilmarnock, where he played 24 times.

Two months after he hung up his boots, Johnson was appointed as manager of Oldham Athletic, with the Latics operating in League One at the time.

31 at the time, the Latics boss was the youngest manager in the EFL and found himself managing a club in the same division as his dad, Gary Johnson.

Johnson enjoyed a productive two-year spell with the Manchester-based club before a move to fellow League One club Barnsley came to fruition.

Steadily improving things during his first few seasons at Ashton Gate, he was unable to continue the momentum, and in July 2020, he was dismissed by the club.

Four months after his Bristol City departure, Sunderland appointed Johnson, winning the EFL Trophy during his first season as boss.

During the next campaign, Johnson was replaced by Alex Neil in January of this year, although the Black Cats were sitting in third place.

Johnson was appointed Hibernian boss in May of this year, and thus far, his side sits sixth in the division, having accumulated 11 points from their opening seven games.
