The narrative of the Premier League’s final weekend will revolve around the battle for European football.
Five teams are battling for three places in the Champions League, with just three points between Manchester City in third and Nottingham Forest in seventh.
Further down the table, Brighton and Brentford will be keeping a close eye on the results around them.
Eighth place could yet lead to European football for next season. Brighton occupy that spot ahead of their final-day trip to Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur. Brentford, who travel to Wolves, will finish eighth if they win and Brighton lose.
Nine teams from the Premier League are already guaranteed to play in Europe next season and circumstances could see a tenth join them.
Brighton and Brentford’s hopes will hinge on Chelsea’s conclusion to the campaign. The eighth-place hopefuls need the Blues to end the Premier League season seventh and win Wednesday’s Europa Conference League final against Real Betis.
The Conference League winners are given a place in the following season’s Europa League, thus pushing the Premier League’s Conference League place down the table.
Chelsea will finish seventh in the Premier League if they lose at Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa avoid defeat at Manchester United.
