How far is every K League stadium from a train station?

The new season is almost upon us, with groundhopping adventures emerging from hibernation, so this is a list of every K League 1 and 2 club, and their distance from a subway or KTX station for anyone hoping to visit Korea in 2025.

Why the train? Because, for me, it is the best way to travel to a game. Either going intercity on the morning of a match, or riding a subway across town, both options are better than buses. Next year, we'll compile a list of stadiums accessible safely by bikes.

The classification is as follows:

Next stop, Stadium: When the distance from the station to the stadium is less than 1 km.

Do you have good walking shoes: When the distance is 1 km to 3.7 km.

Get the bus: Anything over 3.7 km.

Show your passport: When you have no other option.

Some stadiums, like Suwon's Big Bird, are accessible from 2 different lines, but we will only consider the closest one, even if, like Suwon's Big Bird, the furthest line is likely to be the most commonly used.

Next stop, Stadium

  1. FC Seoul, Seoul World Cup Stadium, K League 1

40 meters from World Cup Stadium Station (Seoul Line 6). Exit 1 is basically at the steps of the East Stand, whereas exit 2 is perfect for pre-game pints, the Fan Park, and the North Stand, where the loudest fans watch the game.

  1. Bucheon FC, Bucheon Stadium, K League 2.

157 meters from Bucheon Stadium (Seoul Line 7 and Seohae-an Line). Exit 2 is the closest to the stadium. Fans walk up the steps, see a giant board advertising the next game, and then walk less than 200 meters through trees to the main gate.

  1. Incheon United, Incheon Football Stadium, K League 2.

275 meters from Dowon Stadium (Seoul Line 1). The only drawback is fans must cross a busy street to get from the station to the stadium. It is a shame, when the stadium was built, they weren't about to connect the two by an under or over-ground passageway.

  1. Gimpo FC, Solteo Stadium, K League 2.

572 meters from Masan Stadium (Gimpo Gold Line). From exit 3, just walk straight along the Gimpo-Hangang Road to Solteo. The stadium is small but you'll know you're in the right area because the road is full of parked cars.

  1. Ansan Greeners, Ansan Wa~ Stadium, K League 2.

595 meters from Gojan Stadium (Seoul Line 4). Gojan is an above ground station so you can see the stands at Wa~ from the platform. Similar to Incheon, the only drawback (and it is a minor one) is having to cross a major road to reach the stadium.

  1. Busan IPark, Gudeok Stadium, K League 2.

612 meters from Seodaesin Station (Busan Line 1). From exit 3, walk straight up Mangyang-ro until you see the floodlights. There is very little on this street, so if you want a pre-match pint or food, get off at Dongdaesin instead. The walk is slightly longer but has plenty of options.

  1. Busan IPark, Asaid Stadium, K League 2.

643 meters from Asiad Stadium Station (Busan Line 3). Take Line 3 to Sports Complex, come out at exit 9 and make the short walk down World Cup Dae-ro to Asiad Stadium. Like so many others on this list, the World Cup and Asian Games stadium forms part of a wider complex, so don't be surprised to see so many baseball fans around.

  1. Daejeon Hana Citizen, Daejeon World Cup Stadium, K League 1.

759 meters from Daejeon World Cup Stadium (Daejeon line 1). If have time, get to World Cup Stadium exit 6 and enjoy some pre-match pints and food in a newly built commercial area. Otherwise, leave from exit 7, walk by a big market and the stadium will tower into view.

Do you have good walking shoes?

  1. Seongnam FC, Tancheon Stadium, K League 2.

1.1 km from Yatap Station (Seoul Sinbundang Line). From exit 3, head towards the Tancheon River. You'll see the floodlights from there. This is one of the more interesting walks to a K League ground. From the hustle and bustle outside Yatap to the serene crossing of the Tancheon. Best viewed during cherry blossom season.

1.1 km from Omokyo Station (Seoul Line 5). A mediocre walk to a mediocre stadium. Exit from 3 or 4 and walk through car parks to reach the stadium. The complex's baseball stadium, with a similar façade, is located next door.

  1. Gangwon FC, Gangneung Stadium, K League 1.

Gangwon FC's second/summer home is a short 1.3 km from exit 2 of Gangneung Station. The walk will take no more than 20 minutes if you stick to the roads, but you can add a bit of time by taking in Gyu-dong Park along the route. For an added bonus, the stadium is within walking distance of the East Sea beaches.

  1. Daegu FC, iM Bank Park, K League 1

1.5 km from Daegu Stadion (Daegu Line 1). Daegu Station is an intercity station and a stop on Daegu's Line 1. From the subway exits 1 and 2, make your way to the busy Chilsungman-ro, turn left and walk until that road intersects with Chimsan-ro. The floodlights and stadium exterior will appear on your right.

  1. Suwon Samsung, Suwon World Cup Stadium, K League 2.

1.7 km from Gwanggyojungang (Seoul Shinbundang). Fans arriving to see the Bluewings from Seoul or further away are perhaps more like to travel via Suwon Station but Gwanggyojungang is the closest. Leave from exit 2, walk up to Gwanggyo-ro, turn left and then it about a kilometer down the busy road to Big Bird.

  1. FC Anyang, Anyang Stadium, K League 1.

1.9 km from Beomgye Station (Seoul Line 4). From exit 2, it is a straight uphill shoot along Dongan-ro past schools, apartments, major renovation projects and over the Hakui-cheon. Beomgye station is a great spot for post game drinking and eating.

  1. Chungnam Asan FC, Yi Sun-sin Stadium, K League 2.

2.8 km from Onyangoncheon Station (Seoul line 1). The journey starts to get a little longer now, and some fans might be more inclined to ride public transport or take a cab. Asan is towards the very end of Line 1 and the stadium is situated on top of a hill overlooking the surrounding area. There's little to do around the ground. Get in, watch the match, and get out.

  1. Gwangju FC, Gwangju Football Stadium, K League 1.

2.8 km from Ssangchon Station (Gwangju Line 1). From exits 1 or 2, walk straight down World Cup 4 Gang-ro south to the stadium. It is a straight shoot all the way to the World Cup Stadium carpark. The small football ground is hidden away in the southwest corner of the complex.

  1. Suwon FC, Suwon Stadium, K League 1.

2.9 km from Hwaseo Station (Seoul Line 1). Take any exit from 1-4 and walk along Suseong-ro for almost 3 km. It isn't an interesting walk. Similar to Anyang and Mokdong, Suwon Stadium forms part of a larger sports complex. The ballpark next door towers over the football stadium.

  1. Gyeongnam FC, Changwon Football Centre, K League 2.

This football-specific ground is one of the best stadiums in Korea. Slightly elevated above the surrounding neighborhoods, the vista over the main stand of the mountains in the distance is unbeatable. Changwon Jungang Station is 3.4 km away, but looks much closer on the map. The route is blocked by a mountain.

  1. Cheonan City FC, Cheonan Stadium, K League 2.

3.7 km from Cheonan Station (Seoul Line 1). There are two other stops (Ssangyong and Bongmyeong) which are roughly the same distance but Cheonan Station at least has express subways and other intercity options stopping there. The jaunt is anything but a straight shot. From exit 2, head west and use a map.

Get the bus!

  1. Gimcheon Sangmu, Gimcheon Stadium, K League 1.

3.8 km from Gimcheon Station and the city's intercity bus terminal, Gimcheon narrowly misses out on the previous category. And unlike most of the options below, there are multiple bus options from the KTX station to the stadium. This looks like being Sangmu's final season in Gimcheon.

  1. Gangwon FC, Chuncheon Songam Leportstown, K League 1.

Gangwon traditionally start and end their K League seasons in the beautiful city of Chuncheon, east of Seoul. The stadium is 3.8 km from Namchuncheon Station, and it is a walk I've done before. It isn't especially interesting until you reach the sports complex, which is across the road from the North Han River. The stadium is mediocre but the natural geography surrounding it is exceptional.

Pohang Steel Yard is located behind tall trees deep into POSCO territory, south of the city center. Traffic is busy on match days, and often cars and buses have to wait for freight trains to move before continuing on their journey. From Pohang Station (12 km), only the 305 bus goes directly to the stadium, but it takes well over an hour.

  1. Jeonbuk Motors, Jeonju World Cup Stadium, K League 1.

Another World Cup Stadium situated out in the suburbs, Jeonju is a difficult venue to arrive at and depart from. It is next to impossible to get a taxi after a game, so fans normally trek long distances before finding quieter buses. Jeonju KTX station is 12 km from the stadium, but every bus involves at least one transfer.

  1. Chungbuk Cheongju FC, Cheongju, Stadium, K League 2.

Cheongju's nearest KTX station at Osong serves three cities and small towns in the area. Cheongju does have a stop on the Mugungwha line which is, naturally, much closer to the stadium. But as most visitors are likely to arrive via Osong, we'll give the directions from that station. There are two buses (502 and 511) that leave from near the station and will take you to the stadium without a transfer. The total distance is 15.8 km.

  1. Jeonnam Dragons, Gwangyang Stadium, K League 2.

Gwangyang Stadium is located on a small, industrial island connected to downtown Gwangyang and the rest of the mainland by a couple of bridges. The city doesn't have a stop on the KTX (the nearest high-speed station is in neighboring Suncheon) but it does have a station serviced by Mugungwha trains. That station is isolated and almost 17 km from the football ground. There is no direct connection.

  1. Ulsan HD, Ulsan Munsu Stadium, K League 1.

Ulsan KTX is nowhere near the city center or Munsu Stadium. The express 5004 bus will cover the 18 km from the station to the stadium in approximately 45 minutes, but traffic is congested on matchdays. The stadium is also located in the suburbs, far from downtown. It is one of the more unenjoyable trips to make.

K League's newest addition, Hwaseong FC play somewhere south-west of Suwon in no man's land. In terms of high-speed rail travel or underground, there are no options. The stadium is arguably the least accessible in the top 2 divisions. Hyangnam Station, which is served by the ITX, is 3.1 km away. The best way to reach Hwaseong is probably by car.
