The Premier League may have finished a fortnight ago, but the action continued with another round of international fixtures this week.

Here is how some of the Premier League’s European stars got on for their national sides:

This past week saw the final stages of the UEFA Nations League. In the first semi-final, Liverpool target Florian Wirtz netted for Germany. However, it was not enough to overcome Portugal. Manchester City defender Ruben Dias provided the assist for Portugal’s equaliser before Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner.

The Premier League was well represented in Portugal’s starting eleven. Man City duo Dias and Bernardo Silva, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Chelsea winger Pedro Neto all started the match.

In the second semi-final, Spain beat France in a 5-4 thriller. Arsenal’s Mikel Merino was on the scoresheet for the Spaniards, Spurs’ Pedro Porro provided an assist and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella also featured.

Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate played for the losing French side with Chelsea’s Malo Gusto joining him from the bench. There was also an appearance for new Man City signing Rayan Cherki. The 21-year-old scored and assisted in a 27 minute cameo. France went on to defeat Germany 2-0 in the third place play-off.

The Nations League final was tightly-contested. Arsenal-linked Martin Zubimendi opened the scoring for the Spaniards but, following a 2-2 draw, Portugal won the match on penalties. It is the Portuguese side’s second Nations League title, having won the inaugural competition back in 2019.

Elsewhere in Europe, the 2026 World Cup qualification process is now well and truly underway. Man City’s Erling Haaland combined with Arsenal’s Martin Odegaarad for a goal as Norway defeated Italy 3-0. They continued their perfect start to qualifying with a 1-0 victory over Estonia, courtesy of another Haaland goal.

The Netherlands defeated Finland 2-0 and then demolished Malta 8-0. Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk scored, Spurs’ Micky van de Ven recorded a goal and an assist, and Aston Villa’s Donyell Malen netted twice. There was also an assist for Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo in the first game.

Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson netted and Fulham’s Harry Wilson scored and assisted for Wales, as they pushed Belgium to the wire. However, it was outgoing Man City legend Kevin De Bruyne that scored the decisive goal in the 4-3 clash. His teammate Jeremy Doku was also on the scoresheet, alongside Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans.

It was a disappointing international break for the many Premier League stars that lined up for England. Chelsea’s Noni Madueke provided the assist in a 1-0 victory over Andorra. England then suffered their first defeat of Thomas Tuchel’s reign, losing 3-1 in a friendly with Senegal.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior and Aston Villa’s Matty Cash were both on target in Poland’s fixtures. West Ham’s Tomas Soucek scored for the Czech Republic and Man City’s Josko Gvardiol assisted for Croatia.
