Norwich City made their return to Championship action at Carrow Road last weekend.

Dean Smith’s side had a dismal campaign in the Premier League last term, plummeting to a meagre relegation that was confirmed weeks from the finish line.

The former Aston Villa manager took charge of the club midway through the season and there was little he could do to arrest the slump that Daniel Farke oversaw.

But a return to the second division allows room for optimism to grow around the club again as they seek another promotion back to the top flight.

However, a 1-1 draw against the Latics was ultimately a disappointing first home fixture of the new campaign.

Here we look at how their attendance figures compare to the rest of the league…

Carrow Road saw the second highest number of supporters enter the ground in the Championship last weekend.

A total of 25,595 people paid to see the shares be spoiled with Leam Richardson’s side in the afternoon lunchtime kick-off.

That is not too far away from Carrow Road’s capacity of just over 27,000, which is an impressive tally given the game was being broadcast live on Sky Sports as well, which could’ve turned people off from going to the match.

The only fixture to see a higher attendance came at Bramall Lane, where Sheffield United hosted a 2-0 win over Millwall.

This figure far exceeds much of the competition, with only Bristol City and Stoke City also hitting over the 20,000 mark.

Fellow former Premier League side Burnley could only attract roughly 19,000 to watch their 3pm kick-off at home to Luton Town.

Over 10,000 more people packed in to watch Norwich than did at the Madejski, where only 13,000 arrived to watch their side earn a 2-1 comeback win over Cardiff City.

Norwich will be pleased to see the strength of their attendance figures ahead of another season in the Championship, as some gradual drop-off could be expected due to their relegation from the top flight.
