The Blades were beaten 1-0 at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening, slipping down to third in the table.
Chris Wilder did not mince his words on Tuesday evening after his Sheffield United side were beaten 1-0 by Millwall at Bramall Lane.
The defeat saw the Blades slide out of the top two in the Championship for the first time since January, while Burnley were held to a 0-0 draw with Derby County away from home, and Leeds United picked up a vital 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
Josh Coburn's first half strike proved to be the only goal of the game in S2, as he fired in on the half-turn to hand the Lions a crucial win in their fight for a play-off place - closing the gap to Boro to just three points following their defeat.
However, for Sheffield United, it was back-to-back losses for just the second time this season, and their manager was not happy with some of the performance levels of his players at Bramall Lane, following on from a disappointing display against Oxford United at the weekend.
Supporters would have been looking for a reaction from their team on Tuesday, with there now just five games left to go until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
However, despite their dominance in possession and the 25 shots that they had, they were unable to find the back of the net and were made to pay by a Millwall side that are extremely efficient with the chances that they have.
Frustrations were felt around the stadium at the final whistle, and with Leeds finding their feet again with an impressive win over Middlesbrough, it was a difficult evening for Sheffield United and one that could prove costly in the race for promotion.
Wilder acknowledged that the performance was not good enough, and urged his team to show more in their next match during his post-match interview.
He said: "The longer the game went on, the anxiety sort of crept into the players and decisions they've not really made all season starting creeping into the game.
"If you go deep into a season like we are doing we've got to deal with this a lot better."
The Blades boss continued: "It's a new experience for a lot of our players playing for a big club in this division - it's not League One now, it's big boys' football.
"It's game on against some good players and a good manager who have still got something to fight for."
Although their last two performances have not been good enough, they do have the opportunity to get back to winning ways against the Championship's bottom club, Plymouth Argyle.
The Pilgrims have had a tough time this season, and despite beating Norwich City on Saturday 2-1, they still have work to do to have a chance at staying in the division next season.
They face Swansea City on Wednesday evening, and another victory will hand them huge momentum heading into this weekend, but Sheffield United will be raring to go and they know that they must take all three points to keep pace with the top two.
Wilder has to get his players fired up for the clash, as facing relegation-threatened sides at this time of the season always proves to be tough, but they should have the quality to see themselves through at Home Park.
