Bayern Munich will take on RB Leipzig in the DFL Supercup on Saturday 12th August as they look to collect their first piece of silverware this season. After his first full pre-season with his squad, head coach Thomas Tuchel has some exciting new signings to potentially select in his first competitive game of the new season.
Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has joined Inter Milan in a permanent deal while Alexander Nübel has signed for fellow Bundesliga side Stuttgart on a season-long loan, leaving Sven Ulreich as the only first team goalkeeper available for selection following the news that Manuel Neuer is unlikely to play again this year.
A statement signing was made when Bayern brought in centre-back Min-jae Kim for €50m, with the South Korean replacing the departed Lucas Hernandez. Kim has started the last two pre-season matches and is expected to start against Leipzig alongside Matthijs de Ligt.
In addition, new signing Konrad Laimer looks set to make his competitive debut for Bayern against his former club on Saturday. Laimer was recruited from Leipzig on a free transfer and will slot in next to Joshua Kimmich in midfield, as the pairing have had regular game time together during pre-season.
Tuchel may have a headache with his selection in attack. 18-year-old Mathys Tel has mainly been operating in the striker position during pre-season due to injuries to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Thomas Müller. Tel has developed well though, but Serge Gnabry may be preferred on Saturday in the striker role like he was against Manchester City a week ago, as he has more experience to his name.
With Harry Kane’s medical complete and his move from Tottenham all but official, Bayern Munich will push to register the Englishman in time for the Supercup on Saturday evening.
Ulreich – Pavard, Kim, De Ligt, Davies – Laimer, Kimmich – Sané, Musiala, Coman – Gnabry.
