Ansu Fati may be one of the most exciting youth products Barcelona have unearthed in years, but it almost wasn’t to be.
Fati became the second-youngest player to debut for the Blaugrana in August against Real Betis and then a week later followed it up with his first professional goal.
It’s been a meteoric rise for the 17-year-old but Bleacher Report have revealed that the forward almost left the club over the summer.
They say that West Ham had “agreed terms” with the player and his family and were ready to bring the teenager to east London as he felt there was “no pathway” to the first team.
However, there were issues with his Spanish passport which meant that he eventually stayed at Camp Nou and following an injury to Lionel Messi, was thrown into the senior mix.
The rest, as they say, is history.
