According to Foot Mercato, Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Houssem Aouar (24) won’t join Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, but an Italian trio of AC Milan, Napoli and AS Roma are all well-placed to land Les Gones’ academy product.

Frankfurt had been hoping to land Aouar, who will become a free agent at the end of June. However, after weeks of talks, and a concrete offer, he is set to reject Frankfurt, who look destined to miss out on European football. The news was confirmed by the German club’s Director, Markus Krösche, who has said that “the deal won’t happen.” However, talks are advancing positively with AS Roma. The Italian club’s Sporting Director, Tiago Pinto, was coy on links to Aouar, but according to Foot Mercato, discussions between the two parties should accelerate quickly.

Roma’s next step is to contact Lyon to inform them that they are going to enter into negotiations to sign Aouar on a free transfer. An agreement between the player and Roma is foreseeable. However, there is further competition, firstly from Napoli, who are expected to lodge an offer in the coming days, and AC Milan, who have declared a concrete interest.

Fabrizio Romano has added that there is also interest from Spain in the form of Real Betis, who approached the player weeks ago.
