Edin Terzić admitted Borussia Dortmund are holding their breath on the serious knee injury to Mateu Morey that overshadowed the DFB Pokal semi-final win over Holstein Kiel on Saturday.

Goals from Giovanni Reyna (2), Marco Reus, Thorgan Hazard, and Jude Bellingham put BVB firmly in control at Signal Iduna Park.

It was all going swimmingly until the latter stages when substitute Morey got his studs caught in the turf, gruesomely hyperextending his knee in the process.

The 21-year-old’s screams of agony could be be heard echoing around the supporter-less venue.

“It was a perfect evening up to the 75th minute,” interim Dortmund boss Terzić said afterwards.

“I think everyone in the stadium heard him. He’s not known to be sensitive to pain, this is someone who always bites his teeth.

“When you’ve seen it and especially when you’ve heard his reaction and know what a fantastic boy that is, it hurts incredibly.”

“It’s a knee injury, of course we don’t yet know how bad it is. He is on his way to the hospital, and we hope to find out a little more tomorrow.”

Dortmund will meet RB Leipzig in the final at the Olympiastadion on Berlin on Thursday, 13 May.
