First appearance since Slovan Bratislava

It was the American defender’s first appearance for the Hoops since Celtic’s 5-1 thrashing of Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava in their opening match of the Champions League last month. Missing six competitive matches, Carter-Vickers’ return to the squad is a welcome boost despite Liam Scales and Auston Trusty performing admirably as a duo since his absence.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Brendan Rodgers’ side comfortable 3-0 victory against Motherwell in North Lanarkshire, the 26 year-old centre back opened up about his injury issues which has kept him out of action for a prolonged period.

“I can kick on now”

“I missed a bit with an injury, but yeah, it was good to be back out there today, and hopefully, I can kick on now and keep going. Obviously, it’s difficult to watch, but I was proud of the boys. I thought they put in a great performance.”

CCV continued: “I had it [the toe injury]for a little while, a month, but I was kind of playing with it. It was kind of time to rest it and get it right, so that is what I did.”

Undoubtedly, CCV’s return will give the manager a selection headache heading into firstly Dundee at Celtic Park on Wednesday evening, and then a massive double header versus Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, followed by Leipzig in the Champions League.
