Crystal Palace are next up for Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe’s side of course having had the weekend off due to Man U’s FA Cup involvement and 11 days between games to prepare for Wednesday night at Selhurst Park.

A little different for Crystal Palace who had West Ham at home on Sunday and then have Fulham away next Saturday, with Newcastle United sandwiched in between.

Crystal Palace went into yesterday’s game probably needing one more win to make absolutely sure of avoiding relegation.

Up against a West Ham team who had exited in the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday night, Sunday’s outcome was maybe the least expected of the season, in terms of Crystal Palace winning.

However, it was the manner of Palace’s win that caught the eye, they were as good as West Ham were bad.

Olise giving Crystal Palace a seventh minute lead and the Hammers just collapsing, the home side ending up 4-0 ahead after 31 minutes and cruising the rest of the game, as they could and should have doubled that winning margin.

As it happens, they let West Ham off the hook a bit. David Moyes admitted he was embarrassed by what he’d witnessed, the Hammers somehow ‘only’ losing 5-2 in the end. The visitors somehow scoring twice despite only one effort on target. Their other strike was a comedy own goal courtesy of Palace.

Hopefully Crystal Palace have now got this out of their system.

Survival now surely guaranteed and their fans having seen more than three goals in a Premier League game for the first time this season and indeed this was only their fifth home PL win. Having defeated relegation rivals Burnley, Sheff Utd and Brentford, plus  a narrow 3-2 over Wolves.

This is how the full Premier League table currently now looks on Monday 22 April 2024:

Interesting to see whether the Palace manager makes many changes, with three games in such quick succession.

Crystal Palace have had a really poor season but worth noting that yesterday was only the second Premier League match this season where their two best attacking players, Eze and Olise, both started. They also both scored AND got an assist each.

Crystal Palace with consecutive wins for the first time this season as well, having got that shock 1-0 win at Liverpool the previous weekend.

Wednesday night has the makings of a very decent game, with Newcastle coming off the back of wins over Fulham and that smashing of Tottenham. Plus, only Man City have better recent Premier League form than Eddie Howe’s side.

This is the newly updated Premier League form table on Monday morning, which covers the past six matches for all teams, after the weekend’s matches:

Man City are top of the Premier League form table with one more point than Newcastle, whilst Arsenal are below NUFC on goal difference in the form table, having also picked up 13 points.

Chelsea in fourth having picked up 12 points from a possible 18.

Newcastle United would actually have been very top of this Premier League form table now, if Man City had played and lost this weekend in the league, instead of playing in the FA Cup.
