Patrice Evra has offered a brilliant insight into Cristiano Ronaldo’s mentality ahead of Juventus’s clash with Atlético Madrid on Tuesday.

Juve went into the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie trailing 2-0 and staring down the barrel of elimination.

But a sensational Ronaldo hat-trick saw the tie turned on its head and booked the Bianconeri’s spot in the last eight.

And it seems the Portuguese superstar was feeling pretty confident about his side’s chances of pulling off a dramatic comeback before the game.

On Thursday, Ronaldo’s former Manchester United team-mate Evra posted a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between the two of them in the build-up to the match, and it’s revealing to say the least.

“Bro, I’m counting on you for the Champions League return. I never doubted about you! And people kill me every time you lose or Juventus,” wrote Evra.

“I know. We gonna pass bro,” replied Ronaldo.

“Home (sic) we smash them,” he added.

Now people may accuse Ronaldo of being a bit cocky, but you don’t become one of the all-time great footballers without having plenty of confidence in your own ability.

And he wasn’t wrong, was he?
