Eintracht Frankfurt Women beat SGS Essen at home thanks to a goal from Laura Freigang.

Eintracht Frankfurt Women remain on course in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga after Niko Arnautis’ side climbed from fourth to third with a 1-0 home win over SGS Essen. A total of 1,250 pectators were in attendance at the Stadion Am Brentanobad to witness what was for long periods a hard-fought match, in which Eintracht were the dominant team from the outset. However, they were unable to convert any of their chances in the first half and the teams were level at 0-0 at the break. Freigang scores, misses a penalty Freigang put Arnautis’ charges in front in the 50th minute, and went on to miss a penalty a quarter of an hour later after a foul by Nicole Anyomi. Luck was on Eintracht’s side as the final whistle approached when Maike Berentzen hit the crossbar with a long-range shot, ultimately leaving our girls to celebrate a deserved victory.

Head coach Niko Arnautis: “We dominated the game but only created a few chances to score. With the quality in our team we need to be more purposeful to make the most of those situations. During the break we talked about doing more and getting forward quicker. We did that very well in the second half. Apart from their one long-range effort, we didn’t give them any chances and we were much the better team. The only criticism today would be that we didn’t score one or two more goals.” SGE line-up
