Momentum is the name of the game for Ben Davies after playing his part in our 2-0 win against Brentford in the Premier League on Thursday night.

Relishing his role as the left-sided centre-half in back three in Antonio Conte’s system, Ben was in the danger area at the other end, putting pressure on Sergi Canos, who headed into his own net for our opening goal after 12 minutes. Heung-Min Son tapped home Sergio Reguilon’s cross for a clinical second goal on the counter-attack to wrap up the points in the second half.

With Leeds and now Brentford put to the sword in our last two Premier League matches at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ben is now aiming for a third win in a fortnight as we take on Norwich City on Sunday (2pm).

“That’s our target, we’ve got to look to get another three points,” said Ben. “If we really take advantage of these home games, there are a lot of games over Christmas and a lot of points on offer. We have to try to get that run going.

“We knew how important this (Brentford) game was in the context of our season. We need to put a run together now and pick up as many points as we can. It was a shame Burnley was called off (snowed off on Sunday), because we were confident and felt ready to go, but we needed to start again and try to build some momentum.”

Watching live, it looked for all the world that Ben had headed us into the lead. However, replays quickly told us otherwise. Maybe Ben’s somewhat muted celebration told the story!

“I was nowhere near it, to be honest!” he said. “I was just in there, trying to be a nuisance. I knew from the moment it went in, but everyone thought it was mine!

“Overall, I thought it was a pretty decent performance. There were moments where we had to defend, but Brentford are a very good team and they’ve caused good teams a lot of problems this season. There was always going to be spells in the game where we’d have to dig in and defend and that’s what we did.”
