MILANO, 27 January 2025 - On Holocaust Memorial Day, the players from FC Internazionale Milano’s youth sector attended a special showing of “Se il razzismo entra in campo” (If racism enters the pitch), written and performed by Gianfelice Facchetti, at the Teatro della Cooperativa. The narrative begins with news scenes, discussing the risk of racism and antisemitism gaining a presence in Italian stadia and beyond. In this context, the figure of Árpád Weisz serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers of indifference. His is a story of great sporting success, cut short by the horrors of Nazism.

Weisz was a brilliant footballer and, as a coach, guided Inter to the Scudetto in 1929/30, the first-ever season of the round robin format in the Italian top flight. Born in Hungary and of Jewish origins, he ushered in a new era for Italian football by discovering and promoting talented players such as Giuseppe Meazza. Following the introduction of Italian racial laws in 1938, Weisz was forced to flee the country with his family but the tale ended in tragedy: years later, all of them were deported to Auschwitz concentration camp where they were murdered by the Nazis.

Club chairman Giuseppe Marotta outlined the importance keeping the memory of the victims of the Holocaust alive.

Inter take great care in educating the kids in the Club’s youth system, integrating into their sporting development an educational programme, which sees them engage with sensitive and fundamental topics as part of their personal and cultural development. Among the various topics touched upon are, for example, the fight against racism and discrimination, healthy eating, environmental awareness, digital proficiency, and tackling bullying and cyberbullying. In this context, the Club organizes workshops for the students at Inter College, who, this year, are focusing on the topics of discrimination against refugees – with the support of the UNHCR – and disabilities, in collaboration with Inter’s CSR department.

This initiative was made possible thanks to the support of Tsunami Nutrition, the Club’s Official Nutritional Supplements Supplier.
