Everton locked horns with Aston Villa at Villa Park as they looked to secure a positive result on the road. The Toffees made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 31st minute when Danny Ings found the back of the net with an excellent finish. The Merseyside club failed to come up with a response and went into the half-time interval 1-0 down on the scoreline.

Frank Lampard’s men tried to rescue the game in the second half but ended up conceding their second goal in the 85th minute when Emiliano Buendia scored from close range. Everton found some hope when Lucas Digne netted an own goal just two minutes later. However, Lampard’s players ended up losing the contest by a 2-1 scoreline.
