Reappointed by Crystal Palace at 75, Roy Hodgson is set to improve on his own record as the oldest manager to ever take charge of a Premier League game.
And he has, of course, also become the oldest manager appointed by a Premier League club … again.
That particular record was previously held by, well, Roy Hodgson, when Watford appointed him last season at the age of 74. Back then, the ex-England boss knocked record holder — wait for it — Roy Hodgson off his perch.
That’s right, Hodgson was already at the record-setting age of 70 when Palace first appointed him back in 2017.
The Premier League’s oldest managerial appointment excluding Roy Hodgson was Claudio Ranieri, who was 69 when Watford gave him the job back in 2021.
Maybe they just have a type.
