Glenn Hoddle has suggested that Graham Potter has a “problem” with Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following his recent omission.

The Blues are enduring a difficult season as they’re currently around the mid-table places in the Premier League.

Chelsea have looked to amend this with their activity in the transfer market as they have spent around £600m on new signings since the end of last season.

David Datro Fofana was one of the players who joined the London outfit in January. They paid around £11m to sign him from Molde.

The 20-year-old scored 15 goals in 24 appearances for Molde during the 2022 Eliteserien campaign. He has been unable to make an impact off the bench for Chelsea in recent games.

Now Hoddle has suggested that the young forward is “not ready” to play a significant part for Chelsea.

“No, he’s not the answer,” Hoddle told Premier League Productions.

“He’s not ready now. Even if he had an absolute blinder and scored two goals he wouldn’t be the answer yet, you’ve got to have a lot of longevity as a youngster to come in at that level at Chelsea.

“He can do a job, he’d be a good substitution maybe.”

The Blues have lacked an end product this season. Kai Havertz has been operated as a makeshift striker for much of this campaign, while Aubameyang has been out of favour.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona attacker has now been left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad for the rest of this season.

Hoddle is concerned that Blues boss Potter will have a “problem” with Aubameyang in the coming months but in “many ways” it is not his fault.

“[Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang’s a strange one, it’s not really Graham’s fault in many ways, [Thomas] Tuchel bought him, Tuchel had got the best out of Aubameyang at Dortmund and then suddenly the manager’s gone,” Hoddle added.

“For me, the centre-back Badiashile was left out, he could’ve thrown his toys out of the window there but he had a really solid game. He looks a really good prospect, now he’s not in the Champions League, he’s played tonight, showed a great attitude.

“He [Potter] has got that problem. It’s not the player’s fault, it’s not the manager’s fault, he can only choose that amount, the new players they’ve spent money on they’re obviously going to be in the Champions League.

“The only one [you leave out], I don’t know, perhaps leave [Kalidou] Koulibaly out maybe, I don’t know, it’s a difficult one for him with those rules. Maybe the owners didn’t really think about that.”
