This season is shaping up to be one of the most unique in the history of English football.

With Manchester City (Community Shield), Newcastle (League Cup), Crystal Palace (FA Cup), Liverpool (Premier League), and Tottenham (UEFA Europa League) all securing major honours, five different clubs had already claimed silverware across domestic and European competitions.

And now, history has been made.

Chelsea defeated Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Europa Conference League final last night, making them the sixth different English club to win a major trophy this season - a first in the history of English football.

Only three other seasons had previously seen five English clubs win silverware:

  • 2012/13 - Manchester United (Premier League), Wigan Athletic (FA Cup), Swansea City (League Cup), Manchester City (Community Shield), Chelsea (Europa League)
  • 1971/72 - Derby County (First Division), Leeds United (FA Cup), Stoke City (League Cup), Leicester City (Community Shield), Tottenham Hotspur (UEFA Cup)
  • 1962/63 - Everton (First Division), Manchester United (FA Cup), Birmingham City (League Cup), West Ham United (Community Shield), Tottenham Hotspur (Cup Winners’ Cup)

But the 2024/25 season has now set a new benchmark with six English clubs winning major honours - an unprecedented achievement in the long and storied history of the game.
