The reserve teams for some of the Netherlands’ biggest clubs have had dramatically poor seasons in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.
Jong AZ somewhat spared their blushes with a 10th-place finish, but the talents of Ajax, PSV and FC Utrecht were all dangling somewhere at the bottom of the rankings.
Jong Ajax finished 17th, while Jong PSV ended the season in 18th and Jong FC Utrecht 19th. Only the bottom team Vitesse finished lower, but that was only because the team from Arnhem received 39 penalty points this season.
In total, the four Jong teams only managed to collect 141 points. That is the lowest number since the KKD had four reserve teams (2017-18). Even in the suspended Covid year 2019-20, in which only 29 of the 38 rounds were completed, the four teams collected more points than in this season (142).
It was also a poor year for the reserves in terms of goal production. Jong Ajax scored only 37 times in 38 league matches. In total, the four teams scored 192 goals in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie this season. This arrives as a new low in a year with four Jong teams.
