Taking centre stage in the latest installment of Historic Goals is Martín Vázquez. The midfielder made the step-up to the Real Madrid first team after having excelled for the club’s youth sides. His major strengths were his quality and versatility, in addition to his eye for goal.

In the 1989/90 season, Real Madrid hosted Valladolid on Matchday 15 of the campaign at the Santiago Bernabéu. The youth-team graduate rounded off the scoring in a 4-0 triumph after having collected a pass from Bernd Schuster. Vázquez unleashed a powerful left-footed effort from outside the box that flew past a helpless Valladolid goalkeeper. Vázquez made 341 appearances for Real Madrid and scored 47 times. His trophy haul features 14 pieces of silverware: two UEFA cups, six La Liga titles, two Copas del Rey, a trio of Spanish Super Cups and a League Cup crown.
