The star of this week's instalment of Historic Goals is Iván Helguera. The defender touched down at Real Madrid after his move from Espanyol in the 1999/00 season. His versatility saw him play in central midfield as well as at the back.
On LaLiga matchday in the 2002/03 campaign, Real Madrid beat Osasuna 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu. This week's goal was the defender's first in a game where he went on to seal a brace. Cambiasso picked up the ball on the edge of the box and threaded a pass through to Helguera, who flicked the ball into the back of the net with a first-time back-heel.
Helguera made 346 appearances, scoring 33 goals and winning 9 titles for the club: 2 European Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 1 European Super Cup, 3 LaLiga titles and 2 Spanish Super Cups.
