Jermaine Pennant has urged Chelsea to revisit a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen this summer as the Blues search for a new striker.

Chelsea pursued Osimhen for the majority of last summer but were unable to agree a deal with the Nigeria international.

The Blues once again failed to address their striker issue in January and paid the ultimate price with both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu getting injured against West Ham on deadline day, with the duo yet to return.

Pennant urges Chelsea to sign Osimhen

Osimhen did end up leaving Napoli last summer and he made the switch to Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season long loan.

The 26-year-old has impressed in Turkey this season where he already has 26 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions.

Claude Makelele believes the Nigerian would be the best option for Chelsea, and Pennant has urged the Blues to revisit a move this summer.

“He knows how to score,” Pennant told talkSPORT.

“Like I said, his numbers are frightening. They were great at Napoli. We see how often [Nicolas] Jackson gets chances, but his conversion rate isn’t great.

“He can have three or four clear-cut chances and miss them all, leaving you scratching your head, wondering how Chelsea ended up with a draw or a loss.

“Someone like Osimhen, if he finds a goal, will only boost Chelsea or any team.”

John Obi Mikel has claimed a deal would be easy to get done if the Blues decided to make a move for the striker, and he’s said to have a release clause of around £63m.

The transfer fee is unlikely to be an issue for the Blues, but once again it will come down to wages and whether Chelsea are prepared to break their structure.

Qualifying for the Champions League would likely see the Blues bee able to offer higher wages, but whether it’s high enough to tempt Osimhen remains to b seen.
