CEO Axel Hellmann and Alex Meier herald the week of the testimonial for the ‘football god’.

Axel Hellmann on…

…the significance of the testimonial: “The testimonial for our football god Alex Meier is the absolute highlight of this week. We’re proud and happy that this match can finally take place. It’s been long agreed on since he left us as a player in 2018. Every time we wanted to stage it, it wasn’t possible because the stadiums were closed. It gives us the opportunity to pay tribute to the professional footballer, coach and man Alex Meier at this point.”

…his time with Alex Meier: “In my Eintracht life, Alex has always been someone who’s carried responsibility. Since I’ve been working here, Alex has been an integral part of Eintracht Frankfurt. If you look at the coaches he’s worked under, not just at Eintracht: Friedhelm Funkel, Michael Skibbe, Christoph Daum, Armin Veh, Thomas Schaaf, Niko Kovac, Markus Babbel, Klaus Toppmöller, Thomas Doll and Dieter Eilts. 379 competitive appearances and 137 goals since 9 August 2004; 30,187 minutes of play, 14 years as a professional and four more as a coach. That’s a remarkable career. We’ve sold 30,000 tickets so far. His myth continues to grow.”

Alex Meier on…

…his testimonial on Wednesday: “When I came to Frankfurt on loan in 2004, no one would’ve thought I’d be sitting here in 2022 and getting a testimonial. It’s something quite special for me. I’m very grateful to Eintracht and honoured that I get to experience this. I’m proud when I see the players who have confirmed. Lukas Hradecky and Kevin Trapp, who are still playing. Carlos Zambrano is travelling specially from Argentina. It’s unbelievable that he’s making this long journey for me. Jay-Jay Okocha, Anthony Yeboah, Martin Fenin, Ioannis Amanatidis, Stefan Lexa… Friedhelm Funkel and Armin Veh are going to be the coaches, Franco Lionti the assistant coach. I’m pleased that so many spectators will be there and I hope it’s a nice evening.”
