Manchester United are set to send scouts to watch Amadou Haidara, with the RB Leipzig midfielder ‘highly rated’ by interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

The midfielder has emerged as a transfer target for the Red Devils as the club assess midfield options this winter, having established himself as a key figure for the Bundesliga side since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg.

Haidara can feature as either a defensive midfielder or in a box-to-box role and is understood to have a release clause of £33m in his contract at Leipzig, with the Mail reporting that United will send scouts to watch the midfielder during upcoming clashes against Union Berlin and Manchester City.

Rangnick is an admirer of the Mali international and his arrival would provide the German with a midfielder well-schooled in his notorious pressing methods, whilst Haidara is understood to be open to a move to the Premier League.

Haidara shapes as an attainable target during the winter window as the Red Devils look to strengthen, with the club having also discussed potential moves for Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips and Monaco midfielder Aurelian Tchouameni.

Rangnick has signed a six-month deal to take charge as interim manager and will move into an advisory role at the end of the campaign, having overseen the development of clubs such as Hoffenheim and Leipzig before moving to the Premier League.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the 63-year-old will be able to take charge for Thursday’s clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford, as Rangnick awaits a work permit.
