Heung-Min Son joins another historic club | OneFootball

The stat most people are aware of from Sunday's win over Southampton, is that Heung-Min Son became the club's all time leading Premier League assist maker, with 68. However - that is not the only bit of history that he made during the win.

In fact, before he had even made his first assist of the game, never mind second - he had already joined an exclusive club of players. With his goal to make it 2-0 after around 12 minutes, Son became the latest player to score in 100 Premier League games.

With it, the skipper is in some elite company, joining; Alan Shearer, Andy Cole, Frank Lampard, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Jermain Defoe, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Les Ferdinand, Michael Owen, Mohamed Salah, Nicolas Anelka, Robbie Fowler, Robbie Keane, Robin van Persie, Sergio Aguero, Steven Gerrard, Teddy Sheringham, Thierry Henry, and Wayne Rooney.

Alongside Salah, Son is the only winger on this list. The rest are nearly exclusively strikers, with those that aren't having played in the Premier League a lot longer than Spurs' number seven. As you can see, some very esteemed company to be in.

For all of the discourse around the 32-year old being a "streaky" player, this week has shown that he is very consistent with his productivity. Taking the assist record, and becoming the latest player to score in 100 Premier League games takes a lot more consistency than some will give him credit for.

In those 100 games, the South Korean international has scored 125 Premier League goals, which really backs up the point. Admittedly, you can still be streaky by virtue of not scoring for ages, then scoring one goal in half a dozen games in a row - but in general - it feels like he put those claims to bed a fair while ago now.

Without trying to sound too generic, how frustrating is it that Spurs had two players on this list, in their primes, playing together, and next to each other, every week - and don't have a title to show for it. Not even one. Much less importantly - it would have no doubt given them the respect they deserve from the external footballing world too.

Given his age, and minutes in the legs, it would not be unfair to suggest that Son is beginning to decline from his absolute peak - but he is still an extremely good player, one of the best in the league, and we should all enjoy him whilst we still can.
