Spurs have allowed Heung-Min Son to miss three weeks of action so that the midfielder can attempt to avoid two years of military service.
Son is currently obligated to serve a 21-month term in the military and it must begin within the next two years, unless he wins an Olympic or Asian Games gold.
Spurs are obviously keen on making this happen, as they do not want to lose one of their stars for two seasons.
All South Korean men are expected to take part in military service before the age of 27. Son recently turned 26 and missed out on an exemption at the 2016 Rio Olympics when they were upset by Honduras in the quarter-finals.
“Of course our target is gold but it is a long way to get to the final,” Son said on his arrival at Bandung International Airport. “How we approach the game mentally is important. I have thought about the Asian Games a lot.
“We beat Germany at the World Cup when nobody expected it,” he continued. “Like that, we could lose to other Asian teams here. We have to take each game as it comes, however, and if we don’t give everything in every game then it will be tough.”
The final will take place on 1 September, and Son is expected back to join the squad for their clash with Liverpool on 15 September.
The 26-year-old will miss matches against Fulham, Manchester United, and Watford.
