Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has praised Ousmane Dembélé (26), describing the French winger as “the most destabilising player in the world.”

Dembélé struggled to get off the mark for his new club after his summer move from Barcelona, however, he finally got on the scoresheet on the 16th time of asking during Friday’s 5-2 victory over AS Monaco. However, even amidst his goal drought, Dembélé always had the backing of his manager, Luis Enrique.

The Spanish manager reiterated that support ahead of PSG’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Newcastle United. “He is a different player. He is always asking for the ball and he isn’t scared of doing things. He accepts criticism and he has a lot of self-confidence. I am lucky […] You are worried by assists and goals, but he brings so much to the team. He is the most destabilising player in the world,” he said in a press conference, transcribed by Get French Football News.

Luis Henrique’s historic appreciation

Luis Enrique also revealed that he wanted to sign Dembélé whilst he was manager at Barcelona. Dembélé was playing for Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais at the time and ultimately made the move to Borussia Dortmund instead of Barcelona. “I’ve known him since I was at Barcelona. I wanted him there when he was at Rennes. He didn’t want to go to Barcelona at the time because of the competition,” revealed Luis Enrique.

Dembélé did ultimately make the move to the La Liga club, but only after Luis Enrique had already left. The latter has now finally got to work with the former and both are seemingly relishing the opportunity.
