Jonah Kusi-Asare made his Bayern Munich debut against Mainz on Saturday at the age of 17 years, 9 months and 22 days. The Swedish attacker has been training with the Rekordmeister’s first time “for a few weeks” and will be a part of the squad that plays at the Club World Cup.
“He’s doing well,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund. Kusi-Asare joined the Bavarian side from AIK in February 2024 for €3.5m. Since his arrival from Sweden, the 17-year-old has represented Bayern in the UEFA Youth League, as well as scoring five and creating one goal in seven games for the U19 squad.
Consistent performances and improving development resulted in a place in Bayern’s second team, where he’s scored two and created two in 12 Regionalliga games.
After a chance to train with Bayern’s professional squad, Freund has since confirmed that Kusi-Asare will be a part of the squad that travels to the US for the Club World Cup.
“He’ll definitely come to the Club World Cup,” said Freund. After that? “We’ll see what happens in the summer and discuss it calmly.” Should Kusi-Asare not find himself in the Bayern first team next season, kicker reports that a loan would be possible as the attacker’s long-term future can’t be playing in Germany’s fourth tier.
