Top scorer David McGoldrick says Derby County are a “bit more on the front foot” under head coach Paul Warne and it’s proven to deliver results in recent years.
The Rams striker bagged the winner against Newport County at the weekend as his late header ensured Derby were to head into the third round of the FA Cup where they’ll face Barnsley.
The former Sheffield United man has been in excellent form over the last few weeks, scoring five goals which has helped the Rams go on an unbeaten run of nine games.
The away form has improved drastically since Warne’s arrival, with only Ipswich managing to beat them in League One and the change in philosophy under the former Rotherham United manager has helped get more results.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, McGoldrick highlighted what the differences have been under the two coaches: “We were more possession-based under Liam Rosenior but now we’re a bit more on the front-foot.
“We play with attacking wingers and we’re always trying to get crosses into the box for the likes of myself, Collins, Osula and Dobbin.
“It’s his way of playing and it gets results. You’ve seen the way his teams have been in the past, his Rotherham teams were hard to play against and he’s creating that atmosphere here.”
Derby currently sit in eight in League One and 11 points behind Sheffield Wednesday who sit in third as they hope to close the gap on them this Saturday.

The Verdict
McGoldrick has been in fine form under Warne and perhaps the change in tactics slightly has worked. It’s getting the dangerous players into good positions and Derby are harming opposition more consistently.
McGoldrick’s ability is right up there in League One, but you need to be getting the ball into him to cause damage to sides and Warne is doing that.
He’s playing to the players strengths and simplifying aspects of their game while making them hard to beat which are important traits to have down in League One.
