West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has admitted that Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is so good and talented that it scares him.

Mainoo has been a shining light for United during a season in which the Red Devils have been extremely poor and underwhelming.

With 12 Premier League defeats so far and seven top-flight matches left, United are almost certainly set to miss out on a top-four finish and qualification for Europa League football is looking like the most likely outcome.

At the moment, the FA Cup represents the club’s only chance of lifting silverware and restoring some of the pride that has already been lost this term.

Amidst all these troubles, Mainoo who is enjoying his breakthrough campaign has proven to be a beacon of hope for supporters. The Englishman has made 23 appearances across all competitions for United. He has managed three goals across all competitions in that period, including his fantastic strike against Liverpool last Sunday, which earned his side a crucial point. That goal was also Mainoo’s first one at Old Trafford.

The homegrown star also made his England debut last month and impressed all with his calm and composed displays in the middle of the park. On current trajectory, the teenager has a very strong chance of being included in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for Euro 2024.

Mainoo has been the subject of plaudits from fans, the media and his colleagues and rightly so.

Antonio spoke on the Footballer’s Football Podcast and heaped further praise on the Carrington academy graduate.

The West Ham goalscorer said about Mainoo, He is frightening, he is actually frightening.”

“The craziest thing is that when they came to us at the beginning of the season, I didn’t know much of these players like and this was United, but when he played against us I was like: this kid is something special”

Antonio added, “Then I was like where did they sign him from? They had to have signed him, this guy was a joke, but he came through the academy, this kid is something else.”

Mainoo and United return to action on Saturday when they travel to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth.
