Hervé Renard has been appointed as France’s new manager only four months before the Women’s World Cup.

The French Football Federation confirmed the news on Thursday, with the 54-year-old signing a deal until 2024.

Renard previously managed Saudi Arabia, leading them to a historic 2-1 win over Argentina at the Qatar World Cup this past winter.

He takes over France after the departure of Corinne Diacre following player disputes where names such as Wendie Renard and Marie Antoinette Katoto resigned from the national team.

France will face Colombia in a friendly on 7 April and Canada on 11 April before the World Cup kicks off in late July.

Whether the ex-players will rejoin the squad ahead of the tournament in Australia and New Zealand remains to be seen.
