RMC Sport report this evening that Saudi Arabia manager Hervé Renard is among the candidates to be appointed as manager of the French women’s national team, replacing the under-fire Corinne Diacre who could be dismissed during Thursday’s French FA board meeting.

Diacre’s tumultuous six-year reign looks set to come to an end after several of the team’s senior players announced their withdrawal from the team just months before the World Cup kicks off. Captain Wendie Renard was the first to step back, and was soon followed by PSG pair Kadidiatou Diani and Marie-Antoinette Katoto, all three taking aim at the management of the national team.

A four-name shortlist was reported last week, which included Lyon manager Sonia Bompastor, Paris FC’s Sandrine Soubeyrand, Patrice Lair of Bordeaux, and PSG coach Gérard Prêcheur.

Renard is also being considered by the FFF, given the double AFCON winner’s exploits at the World Cup – beating eventual winners Argentina in the group stagae – and overall experience on the international stage. Prêcheur had been the favourite up until now, but Renard could now pip him to the job, with the FFF looking to invest heavily into the national team to reach the highest level possible before the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in July.
