TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s effort to jettison still more players from the club’s bloated Bundesliga squad nearly led to the club’s sixth confirmed summer departure. One of the biggest transfer flops of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season – Bosnian striker Haris Tabakovic – was reportedly offered back up to his old club Hertha BSC.

The Sinsheimers would have gladly offloaded the 30-year-old they once paid €3m for last August. Tabakovic did net three top flight goals, yet never really managed to crack the TSG starting XI. The five-times-capped B & H international scored 22 goals for Hertha during the 2023/24 2. Bundesliga campaign.

Kicker reports that Berlin’s alte Dame has no desire to re-negotiate Tabakovic’s salary awarded to him when he inked the Hoffenheim deal. A return to Charlottenburg – which would have been most popular with the fans – has thus been ruled out.

In other Hoffenheim-related transfer news, Joshua Quarshie’s sale to Southampton has been officially confirmed. The 20-year-old signed a two-year-deal with the Saints on Friday for a reported €3.5m transfer fee.

One of the quartet of players initially let go by the Kraichgauer after the season concluded has also found a new home. Bundesliga veteran Christopher Lenz (30) will continue his career with 2. Bundesliga outfit Fortuna Düsseldorf.
