Hertha Berlin have reached a verbal agreement to sign Diego Demme from Napoli, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Since Demme moved to Naples in January 2020, he has won the Copa Italia as well as the Serie A title. However, the midfielder has been limited to just 140 minutes of football this term. In truth, his playing time with Napoli was often unstable due to not solidifying a regular spot and injuries.
Demme had previously looked for a move back to Germany in the winter but a transfer never materialised. However, the 31-year-old now has his wish with Hertha.
The Italian-German national will move to the 2. Bundesliga with Hertha and join Pál Dárdai’s rebuilding project. Demme is expected to sign a contract until at least 2026 and will take a salary decrease as he only wants to join Hertha.
Though there is no confirmed deal with Napoli just yet, Hertha bosses are hopeful a deal can be made within the next couple of weeks.
