Hertha Berlin granted 2. Bundesliga license | OneFootball

The DFL have today granted Hertha Berlin a license for the 2. Bundesliga.

“This is good news for Hertha BSC,” said Managing Director Thomas E. Herrich. “We have been working hard over the past weeks and months and submitted all the necessary documents to the DFL by the deadline last Wednesday, fulfilling all the requirements set.

“We started the process of our financial consolidation, restructuring and rehabilitation months ago, and it is still in full swing. The same goes for the sporting plans being made for the upcoming season. Being granted our licence by the DFL gives us planning security. We will continue to work diligently to heal our financial situation and to put together a squad that is able to compete.”

The DFL confirmed that all 36 clubs for the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga had received their license for the upcoming 2023/24 season. Hertha Berlin submitted their application in March but were in danger of not receiving their license due to financial problems.

Because of this, Hertha had to submit additional proof of solvency after the club continuously made losses.

Hertha Berlin were relegated from the Bundesliga after finishing bottom with just seven wins in 34 league games – it’s the first time the Old Lady will be playing in the 2. Bundesliga since the 2012/13 campaign.

With their license now confirmed, planning for the upcoming season is underway. Today, Hertha Berlin reached an agreement with Diego Demme, who is expected to sign a deal until 2026.
