kicker reports that Hertha Berlin faces a big hurdle when it comes to obtaining their license to compete in the 2.Bundesliga next season.
The Berliners are the only club to admit that they have yet to fulfil the requirements to be given a license for next season. The reason is due to a €40m bond that the club obtained from the bank recently. Hertha is looking to extend the term of the bond to allow them a longer time to pay back. The extension would ease the pressure on the club to obtain its license.
The whole ordeal is not as dramatic as the issues the Hauptstadt side faced after their relegation in 2023, where they struggled to meet the requirements.
Hertha are not the only 2.Bundesliga side to not yet fulfilled the requirements. Schalke and Nürnberg both must reduce their equity. Schalke have struggled to do this in the past and even flirted with a points deduction at one point.
Other clubs who still have requirements to meet are: Preußen Münster, Magdeburg, Ulm, Kaiserslautern and Elversberg. In comparison, Heidenheim and Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga have also yet to meet the requirements.
