Former AC Milan striker Hernan Crespo has said that a fixture between Liverpool and the Italian side will always evoke memories of the final in 2005, when the Reds pulled off the Miracle of Istanbul.

A glittering Milan team waltzed into a 3-0 lead by half-time against Rafa Benitez’s Reds but things then turned on their head, with penalties eventually going Liverpool’s way.

Indeed, quoted by the Echo, Crespo – who scored two goals that night – is clearly still haunted by what happened:

It still remains the greatest European Cup final in history and may never be beaten.

Liverpool had no right to win that game at half-time but that is exactly what happened, with some heroic performances from the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Jerzy Dudek.

Let’s hope the Reds can get victories over Milan coming up.
