One of the first things you learn about football is that you should always play to the whistle.
But this weekend, one player very nearly paid the price for failing to abide by the golden rule.
Northern Irish side Portadown took on Queens University in an NIFL Championship fixture and after going through on goal, Portadown’s Adam Salley slotted past the goalkeeper before wheeling away in celebration.
But here’s what happened next …
Luckily Chris Lavery was on hand to finish the job and Portadown went on to win 7-1.
But let this be a lesson to all of us – always make sure the ball has crossed the line!
